Tract Text
Freedom and Peace are thrown around today as though they are either the easiest things or the hardest things to obtain. Our latest conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan are showing just how elusive peace can be. Many military members have fought bravely during their deployments and have come home feeling that they have done their share and had brought peace to a very unpeaceful part of the world. Leaving Iraq, we have seen the unrest come back. Violent death has returned to that place. Violence has been a way of life there it seems for centuries and looks as though it will continue. Unfortunately, for many of the military that have served so well, not only are they seeing peace leave a region where they fought but as they get home they also find peace is hard to the maintain within themselves.
How do you get and maintain peace within your life. It has been said that peace is more than absence of war. The reason many do not have peace today is because it was something never explained to them early on in life or when it was explained they did not listen and made bad choices. Peace has to do with choosing a lifestyle that will bring it about. Our actions, our words, and even our thoughts help us or hinder us in exercising good decisions that will bring us peace or take us further from it.
In the Bible, the book of Isaiah 32:17 says that, “And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.” There is the secret to obtaining and getting peace. It is living righteously. When you practice righteousness it is something that last forever.
You might ask, I live by the golden rule or the Core Values. I am just as good as my buddies. Let me explain. The Bible says that unless you obtain the righteousness of God you will not meet the standard.
The standard is God perfection. Bad news?, No, there is good news. There is a way to obtain God’s standard of perfection required of very human being. Jesus Christ 2000 years ago died on the cross for a world of lost and sinful mankind. When Jesus was on the cross He said, “…It is finished…” (John 19:30) as He died he made a remarkable statement about what He had just accomplished. He had died for all the sins of the world, yours and mine. That was His mission and He accomplished it. Jesus says that, “…whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” He means that if you will believe that Jesus died for your sins, which he did. If you believe that you are a sinner that needs to repent and receive God’s forgiveness, which you are. Then you can become a child of God and receive forgiveness for all sin and experience the peace that God offers to everyone and gives to everyone that will believe. Regardless of what you have done. Whoever you may have killed in or out of combat, or allowed by accident to be killed. Even if you have been unfaithful to a spouse or even if you have cheated on an exam. Maybe you are destroying your body with harmful substances that you cannot seem to stop taking. God forgives those things and can give you peace. No matter what you have thought or done, God knows all those things and loves you anyway. Peace can be yours if you want it. The question is do you want it?
If you know Christ as your Saviour and you have not been living as you know you should, God can forgive.
I John 1:9 says that “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Come to Christ today, come back to Christ in forgiveness and rededication today. He will receive you AND GIVE YOU PEACE.
Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Be Saved today by calling on His name.
With Christ there is Hope. Hope is not wishful thinking about how life might work out. It is a confidence in a future event. When someone in whom you have utter and complete confidence in tells you something, it is that assurance knowing the event will take place, they have given you hope. Christ has assured His people, those who believe in Him that what he says will happen, will indeed take place, regardless of how things look at a particular moment. Psalm 16:9 “Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth; my flesh also shall rest in hope.” Psalm 31:24 “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart (mind, will, emotions), all ye that hope in the LORD.”
Psalm 39:7 “And now, Lord what wait I for? My hope is in thee.” Colossians 1:27b “…Christ in you the hope of glory.” Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
